Today is the day I have been waiting for since I started this cleanse. When I work up bright and early this morning I not only slept soundly through the night and didn’t wake up once but felt clear, calm, focused and awake – no cravings or headaches.
This sweet breakthrough comes at some point during every cleanse. Like most things in life it is darkest before the dawn and you have to suffer through the first few days of the uncomfortableness that comes along with the detox before you get to the bliss on the other side.
As it was no longer pouring rain, I kickstarted my day not with coffee but with a long walk with the dog to make up for being so sedentary yesterday. I then made my big batch of kitchari and had my first bowl around 8am. I was then hungry again around 11am which was fine as I was planning on a noon yoga class so I ate then to fuel for that.
And as luck would have it the yoga class I went to was just what I needed. Instead of being a typical flow class it was a class where we used foam rollers, balls and stretching to pinpoint “blocked” areas between poses. This is particularly relevant to the cleanse as according to Ayurveda one of the reasons we cleanse is to clear our “channels.” Channels are our organs and vessels whose function and flow is vital to our health. When our diet is filled with processed and unhealthy food our body creates “ama” which blocks our channels and leads to fatigue, illness, and disease. One of the goals of cleansing is to reduce ama. So the class was a perfect complement to my diet and felt really good.
I then went to my absolute favorite part of the cleanse week which was my abyanga oil massage at the Ayurveda spa. One of the best things about Ayurveda are the body treatments. I know everyone loves a spa day but Ayurveda treatments are not only good for your body but good for your soul. And while I do a daily self oil massage as part of my daily routine and cleanse I will admit it is much more fun getting it done by another person. It was glorious and another fantastic way to get my channels open to release my toxins and get the blood, lymph and prana moving through my body.
I came home in a state of total bliss to take me through my evening. Life felt particularly sweet today and I think getting through the past three days made it all the sweeter.
