No matter what your feelings about last week’s election are, pretty much everyone I know has been affected by it. A few people reached out to me in hopes I could share some ancient Ayurvedic wisdom that can help us cope with the uncertainty. I needed to take a few days myself as I certainly had no answers in the immediate aftermath. And to be clear, I still don’t. But as the days go on, things have gotten a bit clearer.
One thing I think we all need right now is some loving kindness – towards each other and our differences, towards our country and towards the world.
Below is the loving kindness meditation mantra I teach my students. I encourage you to take a few moments when you are feeling the stress of the world today surround you to sit in silence and repeat this mantra to yourself. Start by sending it to yourself…then send it to a loved one…and then send it to someone you are having difficulty with – perhaps someone you don’t understand or have trouble loving. By sending these words of healing around we can all take a step towards clearing our heads and paving the path forward.
